Hi Friends,
Let’s talk clothing trends, shifting seasons, and fall 2024 fashion colors. Okay, sure, August is still technically summer but I’m looking forward to fall weather and fits… I chose my NY summer rental apartment because it gave me a Carrie Bradshaw feel. I now more likely resemble Mr. Big after the Peloton incident because the Aircon isn't working.🙄 Shockingly, in the midst of this midsummer misery, the one thing that’s keeping me in the world of the living is excitement for all the fall trends coming up, hooray!! I’m looking ahead to cooler days and dreaming up fabulously layered looks and I say it’s the perfect time to consider how you’ll shift your wardrobe between the seasons.
Some pieces are simply more versatile than others. They defy (or stabilize) trends, and play well across the seasons due to their color and construction!
The easiest way to transition your clothing into fall styles – even if it’s still 95° outside – is through color. For example, a t-shirt material dress that I would wear in June will look and feel better suited to fall if I work in some autumn colored layers. In fall, I’m all about earth tones. Some favorites include deep greens, burgundy, burnt orange and chocolate-y browns. So I could pull any of these colors into an otherwise summery look and it will start feeling autumnal. Accessories can be evergreen and are an easy way to adjust the palette of your outfit.
When selecting new transitional pieces to add to your collection, construction should be a consideration. If you’re purchasing a jacket, can it slip over several layers or be worn under a larger coat? Is the piece you want to layer over that dress made from a breathable material? One of my favorite transitional pieces in my closet is a denim cropped jacket – I can wear it with everything! Later in fall as temperatures drop, faux leather or a lighter wool blend are great materials to start layering into your looks so you can stay warm while still looking cool.
And as it gets colder… that’s when you can really have some fun with upcoming trends! Here are some of the women fall trends I’m most excited for and how I’d style them:
- Bodacious shoulderpads: I’m delighted to report that shoulderpads are back, baby! Slice through the width of those silhouette-altering shoulders with a super sleek leather bag.
- Speaking of liquid leather: It’s in. Especially if it’s buttery-soft leather with drapability. I plan to pull vegan leather fashion clothing into my looks with bags, dresses, and maybe even some skin tight leather pants (which are also trending… not sure how I feel about that).
- Over the top accessories + a simple turtleneck: Remember when we talked about colors? Give your giant belt and rockstar hat the centerstage by bookending them with a rich, chocolate brown bag and shoes. They’ll exude a quiet confidence yet scream autumn.
Sienna orange with everything: With a cozy ski sweater! With a fur stole! With a boho dress! A pop of sienna orange will work with anything in your fall wardrobe.
In short, there’s fun to be had with seasonal trends and one of the best things about shifting from summer to fall is that autumn fashion is all about layering. I encourage you to start dreaming about what pieces you’ll layer on as the temperatures drop… but I’d really recommend starting your fall transition with autumnal colors, accessories, and denim so you don’t keel over in the heat.
Here’s to enjoying the end of summer!
Love & Light,
